Geraniums and Green Door

Uploaded: May 03, 2008

Description

These lovely ceramic planters of geraniums grace the porches of Claude Monet's house in Giverny, France. He was very fond of Japanese art and that's easy to see in many of the decorative touches in his home.

I entered this capture of the same door and pot last summer. I do like the interest that the curtain adds to the vertical composition. #913913

Does taking a photo off display in your gallery affect whether you can add it to a discussion thread or not? I have been having a lot of trouble doing this lately. I went to the older version in my member center, copied the photo ID, came back to the new entry, started a discussion, selected "1" from the drop down, submitted, pasted the ID number in the little box on the right, and submitted. Nothing. This is not the first time this has happened to me. AAAGGGGGGGG--WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?
Anyway, I'll just try to add a link:

Beautiful image Nikki ~ Japanese art on the pot but so European in colours and comp ~ love the shadows and peeling paint :)

I'd have thought you could copy and paste your previous comments? Good luck! #5877465

Good Morning Nikki!!! ☺

BEAUTIFUL color composition here! Love the design in the flower pot and the shadow play on the door! Nice lines both vertical and horizontal within the image too! Just a wonderful 'happy' image all the way around!

LOL, welcome to the world of modern technolgy! It has its' good days and its bad days! I have done the same thing in mine and several times it would not 'submit' the original or desired image within the discussion! I am not sure it is something either of us is "doing wrong" because there are many days when I CAN achieve this! Wish I could be of more help! The link works just as well though! DON'T let it ruin your lovely day, K???

These are two different photos of the same scene--one has more height and includes more of the panes and curtain. That's the one I entered last summer. Today's is almost square and focuses more on the pot and base of the door. I promise not to let this ruin my day, Dianna (btw, it's great to hear from you, my dear), but I really would have liked both images to be there for easy comparison. No matter. As you say, sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. I thought maybe taking the linked image off display before trying to insert it into the discussion had affected the situation.
Thanks Susie, Patrick, Vladan and Dianna for taking the time to visit and comment. #5877544

I love both images, Nikki -- they are gorgeous. I agree with you about the inclusion of the curtains, they add a very special ingredient to this lovely composition. The green is so striking, and the shadows complete the scene -- very well done! #5877555

Nicely seen Nikki, I love the bold greens and shadow play. Very pretty! I like this crop better because the eye is drawn to the flowers, flower pot and shadows. #5878204

Nikki, which version do you like best? They are both wonderful--such beautiful little details in the flowers, pot and door. I have to say, though, that I like the original one best! If this one doesn't get an EFP, I think you should re-enter the original! Just my 2 cents. :) #5879667

Well, I was going to mention that little curtain detail, and so I am, although I see many already have. I like this crop a lot, with the balancing horizontals and the flowing lines of the flower. #5882586

I love everything about this one, Nikki. The flowers so beautiful in color and detail and complimented so by that great green, lovely textured door...I also think that just the hint of a graceful curtain brings a nice balance. I am loving this one, Nikki! #5887292
