Fishin' Hole in the Fall

Uploaded: October 30, 2004

Description

Taken in the early evening facing southeast, so had some sun at my back. Camera was just set at auto. Had not caught any fish, but was rewarded anyway with the beauty of this scene.

My 3rd submission, taken last fall with a smaller digital than my current CoolPix 5000. Anyway, I so far have absolutely loved this format and the constructive criticism. Was hoping for some input. While I do love the colors here and the reflection on the water, plus this IS where I do all of my fishing, off the banks of Okauchee Lake in Wisconsin (not a boat owner), I actually have this as one of my desktop backgrounds and while working, often look fondly at it, wishing I was there.

But, back to business, what needs to be considered for improvement of this photo?

I did a bit of "enhancing" with Ifran View, to sharpen a bit and add a little contrast. Thanks #183652

Michael, I just wanted to compliment you on your beautiful photo. Trying to critique it is impossible as I am a novice. The colors are lovely and the only suggestion would be to take a very thin slice off the left (shaded side). Matter of taste. #878892

Thanks so much for the input, Ellie. I'll definitely consider the cropping you mentioned, although I'm afraid my "matter of taste" sort of likes it. But I do really appreciate your taking the time to comment!!! #879742

Ask yourself:

What is the main subject in this frame?

What is the theme?

If you can answer both questions and you are satisfied with them, then you got a good picture.

Boy, you make it hard, don't you.

I guess the answer to main subject is the beauty of the colored leaves with their reflection in the water.

As for them, I guess it would be My Fishin' Hole In The Fall. :)

But just maybe...... this picture only belong on my desktop for me to enjoy, and wish I was there fishing. ;)

Thanks for the input PSerna! I do appreciate it.

And you're right; those are 2 GREAT questions to ask when trying to create a photograph. #879884

There you go....that's your picture.

Put your coolpix in a tripod...set the timer...walk to the fishing hole and throw a line.

You don't need to take that one...I got it in my head already....have fun. #879922
