Reflections using speedy HDR like effect(EDR)
Uploaded: January 07, 2008
This was an experiment using the Speedy HDR (high dynamic effect) like technique described by Matt Kloskowski in Photoshop user. To get HDR usually you shoot 2 exposure of same capture one over exposed and one underexposed and combine this to get a HDR effect or EDR (Expanded Dynamic Range). To get the same effect but more rapidly and with one capture I used Aperture for this but you can do it in CS3 as well. I increased the shadow slider to 100% to get all detail in the shadows and the highlight slider to 100% to get all detail in the highlights then adjusted the contrast to get best effect then adjusted sharpened edges sliders slightly. I did same in CS3 by using images>adjustmements>Shadows/Highlights and adjusting those and the midtone contrast (but did not like the results as well). Will post original to show difference.
Exif: F Number: 11, Exposure Bias Value: 0.00, ExposureTime: 1/200 seconds, Flash: fired, compulsory flash mode, ISO: 320, White balance: Auto white balance, FocalLength: 73.00 mm, Model: Canon EOS 5D

terrific job of expanding the dynamic range Emile.....It pays to experiment...best regards wm #5320428Emile Abbott January 11, 2008
Thanks Kathy, Bill and William. Bill I do not know about CS2 but if they have a saturation, hue and contrast slider in Levels I would think you could try it. Of course the best way to get HDR is to shoot same capture bracketed with one over exposed and one under exposed. When you do this be sure to watch the histogram so as to not over expose and blow out the highlights to the left. It is easier to get more data from the dark shadows as more data is there to recover than from the bright side. Then combine and merge the two captures and adjust to get the best details from each capture. A lot of professional use this technique to improve the details but it take a lot more time than the technique described by Matt K. #5324085Cindy Wong January 11, 2008

Hi Bill, I am at a more than full time medical practice right now. I can barely keep up with the sick patients and very little time for the spouse. Winter is my very busy season here on the West Texas/Mexican Border. #5359858Manuel Barrera January 22, 2008
