How do you take underwater photos with a digital SLR? #243192

Hi David,
I purchased a soft underwater case from EWA-Marine (via B&H Photo). However, this kind of soft case, I must admit, is only good for light underwater work, such as this pool photo. When I took the camera and case diving (deeper than, say, 10 feet), it did not work well. The camera was safe and dry, but the functions failed due to the pressure. For that kind of deep-diving photography, you need to buy a hard case. These cases cost a lot more, because they practically have to be custom made.
Thanks, be safe, and have fun! #1307706

Great shot, Jim. I'll try to find a good underwater case for my camera. I really like the underwater effect. #1315695

Instead of spending a lot of money for a case for SLR (more than SLR itself sometimes) I bought a full featured Canon Powershot A80 (A95 these days) and Canon made(?) dedicated underwater housing ($170) with complete control of every camera function. Similar inexpensive housings are (good down to 130 feet) are made for other advanced compact digicams. I use it for scuba diving for two years and find it to be a perfect solution for otherwise incredibly expensive, unreliable and bulky underwater SLR project. Even if this housing is flooded, I risk a $200 camera, not $2000. There is even a strob available ($170) for this setup. here is an illustration: #1326861
