This Killdeer is providing shade for its eggs on a very hot day in June; Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge, Utah; f 5.6 1/650s @ 70.00mm with 1.7x telephotic converter; contrast adjusted in iPhoto, otherwise unchanged; Feedback greatly appreciated.

This is sharp, but I could tell immediately that it was taken in rather harsh light... the harsh shadows under it and especially over the head/eye area are detractors. Again, a good ecology capture with the eggs and everything ... I'm just commenting on the artistics/technicals.

Yeah, unfortunately harsh lighting conditions are pretty much the only time you'll actually see shading behavior. Usually the birds are sitting on the eggs in the morning and evening.

Thanks for commenting, I appreciate your take. As I said, I'm a biologist who's just beginning to branch out into more artistic shots.
