Yes, the dust lets this pic down...
You might rescue lots of quality by doing some cloning in PhotoShop.
Also, adjusting levels would bring more contrast and zing to fading photos. #16263

I've been working on this one... But I think I still need to improve my PS skills (getting there) - but I've managed really clean some of them up a lot.... #16264

Great one!

You might also try scanning at max resolution, saving as tiff, then sharpening and playing with unsharp mask, and then reduce picture size and save as jpeg.

This way, you'll get sharper results, without making grain too prominent.

Thanks for the tips... I've just begun to delve into the realm of tiffs - Storage space is not as major a concern as it used to be.
