Lava Field Graffiti on the Big Island, Hawaii. I found it very intersting the messages that people left in the lava using white stones instead of spray paint. Most messages were positive with an element of the human spirit.....

Maybe there's a market for white rocks along side the spray paint here on the mainland :0) Nice shot and interesting story Jeff! #650500Stanley J. Contrades July 16, 2004
Hope that visitors know not to take any of those black rocks home with them, or those from the volcano area as well!! It's always enticing to have a "remembrance" of the visit, but too many "bad" things happen to those who take them home only to have them mailed back! These messages cover miles along both sides of the highway coming out of the Kona airport.Jeff Robinson July 16, 2004
Carolyn, Charlene, Colette, Murry and Stan: Thank you all very much for you comments!Stan I am sure everyone appreciates the PSA about lava. Although my image was not intended to encourage anyone to take lava home, in certaily is a well known legend that taking lava may have side effects. I do not know of any man made laws against taking lava, but the laws of nature do appear to be against those who do take it home with them. I would like to have had the time to walk through the lava field you talk about along highway 19 but time did not permit. I am sure their is a lot of interesting messages imbedded their and like I said, most words were positve and heartfelt for loved ones and the island itself! Thanks for your added info about the area.
Mahalo and Aloha!
