Overnight snowfall changed the ploughed winter fields below Surrender Hill into a fantasy of striations.
Surrender Hill is situated between Clarens and Fouriesburg. It is hard to imagine, when looking at this landscape that it made history at the end of the Anglo-Boer war.
Technical: Lightened and sharpened and resized.

Hello.I am inexperienced in taking pictures in and of snow and wondered how much I could improve on it.

Hello Irmgard.I would say first off that this is a very well-balanced image. You call it a layer cake, and it certainly has layers. I'm not sure what can be done about the idea of shooting in snow, since it doesn't appear to have that much snow in it. Though it may have looked like heavy snow, it doesn't really look like snow-covered landscape. If you wanted to improve it, for me, perhaps, more contrast would help make it pop a little more and an attempt at bringing out more tones in the sky. But it's a winter scene, more or less, and I think works quite well as it is, needing a bit more contrast maybe.
Not sure this helps you much, but there it is. #4479439
