Sunset at Pont du Gard
This is an aqueduct in southern France, constructed by the Roman Empire
Built on three levels, the bridge (Pont) is 171 feet high, and the longest level 300 yards long. Official excavations suggest construction took place in the middle of the first century A.D Designed to carry the water across the small Gardon river valley, it was part of a nearly 31 mile aqueduct that brought water to the Roman city of Nemausus (Nīmes).
