Wild Lily Description: Water lilies grow in the marshlands here in Illinois along the Mississippi River, although I've noticed lotuses are much more common. If you ever wonder which is which, the lotus grows very tall and has an intricate center almost like a drum with holes on top; water lilies such as this one, bloom very low to the water. Although they do come in pinks, blues and purples, I am still looking for the colored one! I suspect they're easier to find in gardens than in marshes, where they're nearly always white.
