Thank you so much, Jessica. I love this image, too. It is the head of Medusa, taken by the Byzantines in Constantinople from a Greek temple and used to support columns in a cistern beneath modern day Istanbul. It was used 1500 years ago as a water storage facility in case the city came under siege. It was placed sideways (and some are upside down) so the early Christians would not worship the Greek goddess.
