Description

I know less is more, but I don't think these people got the memo. :) Taken during the Azelea Trails in Tyler, TX with 24-70mm lens, f/8,1/6 second, neutral density grad filter, tripod, and cable release. Also applied Dave's Dream Filter in PS.

Looks like a nature photographer's heaven, Cora, great job with the lighting and shadowing, and getting nice colors... must be the good use of nd grad filter.

I am a little confused. What is Dave's Dream Filter in Paint Shop? I have not seen that. What am I missing in the lingo? ;)

Blair, the dream filter is an action written for Photo Shop or Photo Shop Elements which automates several steps so you don't have to execute them individually. It just makes the process quicker. :) #540922

Coral,
Love your work.
Would love to get the PS action.

Where could I find it??

Cora was nice enough to answer that very question for me the other day by email. Here is her answer:

In response to your question about Dave's Dream Filter, it is an action written by Dave Jaseck for use in Photo Shop or Photo Shop Elements. Since it is written specifically for those programs I don't know if it would work with Paint Shop or not but here is the link if you want to check that out: http://www.geocities.com/rnlnero/PE2stuff2.html . The Dream action is found in the Jaseck's Collection in the right column about half way down the page.

Oh my it's like Heaven on earth. I am new to digital photography and need to learn about using different lenses to achieve certain results and obviously more about using Paint Shop Elements. Can you tell me more? This is the most beautiful photo ever, looks like a painting...Bet you could sell it a thousand times over!!! #640205

Thank you, Elizabeth, for the overly generous compliment!
This was shot at the 30mm setting on the lens which produces a somewhat wide angle and good depth of field (the ability to get everything from near to far in focus). Wide angles are useful for including large areas and providing depth within the picture. On the other hand, telephoto lens are useful for concentrating the focus to a particular area (which is useful for pictures in which you want only a portion of the shot in focus) or for compressing depth.
With regard to the dream filter I applied in Photo Shop Elements, you can download it from the above referenced link and install it into Elements, the directions for doing so are included. Once you have installed it, open the photo you wish to apply the dream filter to and use the Recipe tab to locate the Jasecks Collection. Highlight it and then click on Dave's Dream Filter. The action will run by itself and when it is finished you will have a 'dreamy' result. The effect works beautifully on some shots on not so well on others.
Have fun experimenting and if you need further help you can email me scj.miller@gte.net
Hope that answers your questions.

Thanks too, Carol, Blair, and Wayne. I appreciate your comments as well. #641223

Beautiful. I see alot of comments about
using PhotoShop..is there a "best" of
it to buy? #1513667

Cora Miller level-classic June 24, 2005

Thank you Mary.

To answer your question, if money is no object then the "best" would be Photoshop CS2, the newest version of Photoshop. However, if you're just starting out and PSCS2 is too expensive then I would suggest Photoshop Elements 3. It is a scaled down version of PSCS but you will find that it will probably do everything you need. If you have any other questions feel free to email me. #1517663
