The Rabbi Celebrating Purim
Uploaded: March 08, 2007
The Rabbi is wearing a wig.
Dressing up in masks and costumes is one of the most entertaining customs of the Purim holiday
Purim is an occasion on which much joyous license is permitted within the walls of the synagogue itself.
For example, during the public service in many congregations, when the reader of the Megillah mentions Haman (54 occurrences), there is boisterous hissing, stamping, and rattling.
Purim is one of the most joyous and fun holidays on the Jewish calendar. It commemorates a time when the Jewish people living in Persia were saved from extermination.

Great shot, Melissa! I agree, it's all about expression; and what a terrific smile you caught! I was familiar with the account of Esther and I knew Purim commemorated the event but I did not know about the wigs, costumes or the celebration! Very interesting! Glad you shared the story! #4034200Norman P. Banks March 08, 2007
Wonderful portrait and capture of fun filled emotion, Melissa. There is a well known image of the rock music icon, Jimi Hendricks, which this image closely resembles. (smile)
