The answer to your question is that this is a photograph of a plastic ice cube made with a microscope. It is part of a series of images I have made with special microscopy equipment over the last decade. Microscopy is a lot of fun and inexpensive to get started. You might want to check out an article here at BetterPhoto: www.betterphoto.com/article.php?id=185. Since these are not really photographs of things, but more of light refracted by substances, I chose to title most of the images after parts of speech in Latin. I had more education than I may have needed. An ablative absolute is a sort of all-purpose clause in Latin.

You nailed it when you said "voyages of discovery"!!! Have you ever seen my "cake plate" photos? They're in my gallery... several of them, this reminds me of those. (but no microscope) The reflective coloring and light makes this a remarkable photo! I love it! #5929886
