Thin Ice

Uploaded: January 07, 2004

Description

Because of the streams and rivers that flow into the bay all year, there will be a thin layer of fresh water on top of the salt water when it's calm. The fresh water will freeze easily so we end up with a thin film of ice. It's rather rare, because it's usually windy when it's cold and the water stays mixed and unfrozen. This is the first of 3 images of the same scene. This one is zoomed in. The next will be a more normal view and the last will be a panorama showing the whole scene.
