Shipwreck Coast
Uploaded: July 19, 2006
Rusty anchor embedded in rockpools on the Shipwreck Coast (western Victoria, Australia). This is the anchor from a barque which went down in the 19th century - one of more than 100 vessels lost along this stretch of coast. Most were lost when nearing the end of a 3 month voyage from England. There's no land between here and Antarctica, so the wind usually howls.
It's 400 steps down to the beach.
Travel and Place entry.
