Form and Shadow
Uploaded: December 26, 2005
f/5, 1/250th second, ISO64, daylight (outdoors), tripod.
I was curious to see if bright sun would create an interesting shadow from this piece, since it has
opaque color alternating with transparent color throughout the spiral.
(The flecks in the glass itself are actually tiny bits of gold leaf catching the sun.)

I like this one, Christopher! Beautiful shadow...excellent work! #364530Chris Budny December 26, 2005
Thank you, Pat! (I see you've changed your mini-pic for the holidays!) I'm still exploring ways to shoot my glass pieces. I got a close-up converter lens (after I took this shot) which I think would have allowed me to position the camera further back, while still getting basically this same shot---I kept running into problems with the camera being reflected in the glass, when I physically got this close! #2225240Judy S. Terrific capture, Christopher! #2225835Stan Lubach December 28, 2005
The colors in the shadow came out great! Good job with the highlights on the piece itself. I know what you mean about getting the camera reflection in the shot. I've done that myself. Last week, though, I was cursed with trying to get some ultra-wide landscape shots but constantly getting my shadow in the shot. :( #2230536Chris Budny December 28, 2005
Thank you, both! I'm eager to try my new close-up conversion lens next! #2230788Dee Caraballo January 06, 2006

Fantastic image, Christopher!!! Good luck with this one! #2289296Chris Budny January 14, 2006
Thank you both, Larry & Sharon! Probably my favorite piece of glass so far, and I was eager to see it in full sun, shortly after bringing it home. #2289666Sarah J. Thexton July 24, 2006
I had to come and have a look at your gallery and I am totally blown away. This piece is beautiful both in shape and color. When I look at this I know why I am here! #3071973Chris Budny July 24, 2006
Wow... you found an image in the back pages ;) Thanks so much--the glass is truly spectacular all by itself. (Made by Michael Schunke, of Nine Iron Studios in West Grove, PA.)Sign up for an interactive online photography course to get critiques on your photos.
