Also you can get a good exposure with these settings. F8 1/125 and iso 100. Worked for years with film with these settings. Do you have a flash meter? If so place strobe at setting to give F 8 on near side of face and then meter shadow side from reflector. It should read about 4-5.6 for a 3:1 light ratio. Hope this helps... #11673806

Thanks Randy I don't have a light meter yet Thanks for the numbers still trying to figure out the best numbers to use. I think I saw that they have a light meter app for a smart phone I think will be good Thanks

You will need one that reads incident readings with the little white bubble over the meter eye.. this way you get the reading of light fallin on subject not reflected. Check ebay for used ones, I had one from Minolta and now have a Sekonic that I got from EBAy. They are indespensible in portrait lighting and also environmental work... The F-8 125 shutter and ISO 100 will work all the time. Has for years... Give it a try as your numbers will work as you have an F8 setting but you can get in trouble with a moving subject with slow shutter. the 125 shutter will work with most camera shutters as a max speed. For leaf shutter cams like Mamiya twin lens it could use all speeds.

Also another old trick to do the readings with out meter... get a styro foam cub (empty 8-0 ) hold over end of lens take reading but you more or less need a continuous light source. That is why the incident strobe meter works so well. #11673812
