Hewn and Aged

Description

One of a series of humanized lion heads adorning a palazzo along the Grand Canal. Their once-smooth features have weathered into a wonderfully crackled surface, while the larger ashlar blocks of the wall were finished with a deliberately rough, chipped appearance from the start. B/W conversion with Nik Silver Efex.

Lots of great texture showing off with the black and white conversion! Interesting lion head to look at as well! #1700946

What a character this is and expression. The viewer wants to know just what the lion is looking sideways at that's got him spooked. #11665030

My favorite from your December 2017 entries. The textures and tones are very well done - and I really like the (camera right) eye that looking away while the other looks straight ahead. It makes me wonder what the sculptor was thinking! #11671039

Thanks, Terry! Yes, his eyes being slightly out of synch puzzled me too... #11671305
