The Singing Bridge

This bridge crosses the Myall River, and connects Tea Gardens and Hawkes Nest on the mid north coast of NSW. The bridge was opened on the 6th of April, 1974. It replaced a ferry that had been running since 1928, and during the holiday season it was not uncommon to wait for up to 6 hours to cross the river. The bridge got its name from the musical sounds the bridge railings generate during strong south-westerly winds causing the bridge to act as a wind harp. Koalas have been recorded crossing the bridge at night.
