Giant Anteater

Uploaded: October 09, 2017

Description

This marvelous creature was photographed in a field in the Southern Pantanal of Brazil two weeks ago. He's about eight feet long from tip of that long snout to the end of his bushy tail. He walks with his sharp claws balled up so they remain sharp to hack into tough termite mounds. He slices into the termite mound and then uses an extremely long tongue to gather up the little terrified termites. He only gets so far because the braver termites or soldier ants soon start biting or releasing a nasty chemical secretion causing the ant eater to retreat for another day.
