Quatrefoils

Details from the upper arcade of the iconic Doge's Palace in Venice. The gothic arcade here is crammed full of carved details and numerous clover-shaped quatrefoils. A band of flowers running as a cornice can be read as abstracted, barbed quatrefoils. Every column capital is different and includes miniature figures. Subtly different lions appear in low relief below each quatrefoil. Of course, the open quatrefoils then made for fantastic patterns of light, cast into the deep, shaded veranda behind.

Fabulous EOD capture with outstanding use of shadows and light. Fabulous work, Chris. Thanks for the info on the Venice tours. I'll have to check into it. #1684015Chris Budny April 14, 2017
Thanks so much, R.J.! I was in architectural paradise there... (As well as Carnevale paradise!) I whole-heartedly recommend the workshop experience with Renee Doyle! #11583521Joanna Kovalcsik April 16, 2017
