Tiny Treasures

Part of a larger wall display of miniature forms in blown glass by Lino Tagliapietra. Here, all the pieces are worked in avventurina, a challenging glass typically showing "crystals" of copper, giving an all-over sparkle. One of the forms on the right is the Seattle Space Needle; an homage to Lino's adopted home town in America. POTD 5/13/17

Fascinating capture, Chris, and I was especially delighted to read about the Space Needle since I have just returned from that lovely city. Great capture... nicely framed and presented! Bravo on the light! It really accents the details of the glass and the recesses of the shadowbox. #1683726Joy Rector April 10, 2017

This caught my eye instantly. Absolutely stunning work Chris! (as usual!) #11582152Chris Budny April 10, 2017 1
Thank you very much, ladies! When I saw this, I was briefly hopeful that I might be able to become a collector of Lino's glass at last, by purchasing one individual piece hereā¦ Where his big vases are $30,000 or more, surely a little miniature couldn't be too bad? Alas, this series is only sold as an entire wall installation, not individually :-) #11582199Dayna Cain April 11, 2017
You might not have the actual glass but what you have captured here will get you gold. I am completely mesmerized by your photo. I can't quit looking. #11582370Chris Budny April 11, 2017
I'm so glad you like it that much, Dayna! Thanks!! #11582485Michael R. McKenney April 13, 2017
The lighting is great! My eye is all at once yet individually drawn to each piece because of the reflection on each one. It's hard to explain, but as others have mentioned, this is the kind of capture that sort of captivates the viewer. It is soft, yet sharply focused. A bit mysterious. Great photo! #11583014Chris Budny April 13, 2017
Thank you so very much, Michael! I wish I could say I had anything to do with the lighting -- I shot with just available light, using a tripod (it was ceiling spotlights and some large windows).Terry A. Stoa May 13, 2017
Woo-hoo! This is really cool, Chris - congrats on yet another POTD award. I especially like the composition, the lighting (subtle, interesting shadows) and the excellent symmetry of the "cubbies" for each piece. #11594022Michele Peterson May 13, 2017
Congratulations on the POTD, Chris! Agreeing with all that has been written already, this is an image to keep looking at and to enjoy. And, as a Seattle-ite, I especially love that Space Needle! Beautiful pieces, and a fabulous capture. #11594024Don Johnson May 13, 2017
