DC's extra-early spring weather 2 weeks ago promised to accelerate the schedule for cherry blossoms. Unfortunately, winter wasn't done with us, and last week brought a few inches of snow, devastating any blooms foolish enough to have believed in the warm spell. The soft-pink cherry blossoms at my local coffee shop were among the gullible. But I managed to get some spontaneous shots of them 3 days before the snow arrived. Only these two blooms were growing on their own tiny twig, directly out of the tree trunk at eye level; all the other blooms were in their proper place, sprouting all over the much higher branches.
