Description

I've long been an admirer (alas, never a collector!) of the work of master glassmaker Lino Tagliapietra. A native of Murano island, he began working with glass at age eleven, more than 70 years ago. He was granted the title Maestro by his early twenties, and it isn't a stretch at all to say he has had more impact on the world of glass today, than any other glassmaker in history. So it was a treat beyond belief for me to get to visit the Lino Tagliapietra Studio in Murano, with just his son Silvano there to share the gallery with me and let me photograph for a few hours. There is so much technical complexity going on in Lino's work (he invented several new techniques which have since become common in studio glass), yet his pieces are always strikingly beautiful.
