Thank You for the compliments Harvey and Shirley. This bird is called a Shoe Bill it gets between 5 and 6 feet tall and the males weigh around 12 pounds with the females a bit smaller at around 11. They come from tropical east Africa from Sudan to Zambia. Last time I checked, about 6 years ago there were only 10 in zoos in the United States with 5 of them at the San Diego Zoo. They are a very interesting bird to watch I have watched them for about an hour at one time a couple times. Going through zoos most people seem to go by the birds real fast. I am disabled so I do not mind watching birds for long periods of time and if they get close enough to me I will talk to them sometimes as long as an hour. My three favorite things to take pictures of are Birds, Models and Botanical gardens. I don't usually talk to flowers at the botanical garden though.
