This dune conservation fence was place three years ago on the flat sands of Atlantic Beach, NC. Now a dune has been created complete with sea oats and other vegetation that will allow more wind blown sand to build up the dune even higher. This becomes a refuge for additional plant and animal life. The dunes also provide important conservation in preventing beach erosion during the many nor'easter storms and protect the homes built on the opposite side of the dunes. The recent Hurricane Matthew sent it's right into the base of these dunes.
