Description

Katmai National Park and Preserve is located in southern Alaska about 300 miles southwest of Anchorage. It was dedicated as a national monument in response to the 1912 eruption of Novarupta which formed the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes and was changed to a National Park in 1980. it is also home to the largest known concentration of brown bears, the famous brown bears of Brooks River and Brooks Falls.
