Description

St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church closes in Dover, NH, established in 1893. 1933 - 2016 (May 29, 2016)

St. Charles Church hosted a closing ceremony on Sunday, May 29, ahead of its upcoming demolition to make room for a workforce housing development. The sale of the church and property on Central Avenue was a tough, emotional decision, but there is some news that may make the loss of the building a bit less devastating.
Some of the stained glass windows will be saved and used in the new building.
The 83-year old church and adjacent rectory will be torn down this summer to make room for the housing development known as “Bradley Commons.” According to Father Agapit Jean of the Parish of the Assumption in Dover, the developer, The Housing Partnership out of Portsmouth, has agreed to install several of the windows, along with a memory case inside the new facility.
