This town is about 45 Km south west of Wellington.
Banjo Paterson, was a famous Australian bush poet, he was also a solicitor, journalist, war correspondent, newspaper editor and soldier. He was born in 1864 and died in 1941. He spent the first 7 years of his life in Yeoval, before moving to Illalong in the Yass district. In 1936 he was appointed C.B.E.
The town of Yeoval adopted his poem “Mulga Bill” as their own, it is the story of a jackaroo who bought a bicycle just before the turn of the century, then he found out he could ride anything except a 2 wheel bike. His first attempt to ride it was a disaster; he ended up in Dead Man’s Creek, where left the bike in the water and walked home. He then went back to riding horses from then on.
