Beautiful Collage! How did you do this? What program did you use? #567097

Cyndee Wanyonyi December 05, 2006

Hi April,
Thanks for the compliments. I used Photoshop Elements 3.0 to create this collage. If you have PSE, I will tell you how to do this simple collage.

Cyndee, I have been searching everywhere for instructions on how to make a collage like this. I have the same camera as you, and photoshop elements. Will you please clue me in?

OKay, Ladies, here goes:

1. Open new document (I like to use 12x12), dpi should be 300 and background should be white
2. Go to your rectangle marquee tool (the one that makes rectangles and circles) and make sure your tool bar is check where it says, "Fixed size" (it may be a drop-down). Make the size 3x3.
3. Now click on a part of the 12x12 canvas you created and it will make a box that is 3x3. Ctrl + J will create a layer for you with only this box. Color this box black. Do this nine times, so that you will eventually have boxes that look like the above, only with black instead of w/photos inside.
4. Now save this as a template for you to use in the future.
5. Now flatten the image, or merge layers until it is only one canvas w/no other layers.
6. Take your magic eraser tool (the eraser with a star to the side) and erase each of the boxes. This will create a transparent box where you can place your photos.
7. Now drag your photos from another document on PSE to this new canvas voila! There you go. #3712059

Nice montage. Can you tell us the name of that script font? Thank you! #3712549

Thanks Cyndee for taking the time to explain this. I learned so much from this project, and my collage turned out pretty good for my first try. Not as nice as yours though.

Thanks again,

If anyone is looking for a similar font, I found one at www.dafonts.com called Scriptina.

Happy Holidays everyone!

Hi Cyndee,
I am stuck! I've got up to step 6 following your directions. Now I can't seem to figure out how to drag my photos into the template. Once I drag them into the sqare, they just inlarge and take over the screen. Any idea what I may be doing wrong?

Hope you don't mind my two cents, and Cyndee you might have an easier way, but I found I have to uncheck maximize mode under images, under window, for my collage layer, then switch over to the move tool and drag my photos to the background. Hope this helps. Julie #3805690

Another issue that will cause the same result is that your images are of different DPI.

If the collage is say 72dpi and the images you are dropping in are 240 or 300dpi, they will be HUGE in comparison.

Might give it a look ... good luck! #3808241

Julie & Beau, thank you both for your tips. I will look into it! #3808983
