This cabin is part of the Koreshan Unity Settlement, established by a religious sect in southwest Florida in 1893. Major tenets of the Koreshans included communal living and a belief that the universe existed in the inside of the earth. In 1961, the surviving members of the settlement presented the property to the state of Florida, and the property is now a historic site. This particular cabin is known as the Damkohler House, built in 1892.
