Description

At a modest town in the outskirts of Mysore lies this habitat where swarms of Blue-tailed Bee-eaters migrate seasonally. One thing that strikes is about their behavior of chewing insects: they usually feast on Bees, Dragon flies and Butterflies, in that they don't simply swallow them, but instead hold them securely between the beaks and chew them to suck all the nectar of their body and finally spit them out. I personally found this behavior of satisfying hunger quite amusing (and also thrilling) subject for photography. Here is a lucky and classic moment where four of them are perched in a row, in a rhythmic pattern of pairs, pointing in opposite direction – and each of them engrossed in chewing a Dragon-fly. My fingers pressed the shutter in excitement as I watched that mellow soft bokeh complementing the whole composition.
