Ants Farming Aphids

Description

90mm macro lens with extension tubes. These guys were busy on my morning glory plant. Upon researching what was going on here, I found out that Ants "farm" aphids...that is they eat the sweet honey like secretions from the aphids. They even take some of the aphids to the queen. Sounds all very gross to me, but was very interesting to see it happening. I also read that if ladybugs (which would normally eat the aphids) come and try to do this, the ants will even attack them...so theoretically there could be a ladybug and ant war going on...the small world is incredible.
