Peter & Paul Fortress, St. Petersburg -Russia. The fortress was established by Peter the Great on May 27 (by the Gregorian Calendar) 1703 on small Hare Island by the north bank of the Neva River, the last upstream island of the Neva delta. Built at the height of the Northern War in order to protect the projected capital from a feared Swedish counterattack, the fort never fulfilled its martial purpose. The citadel was completed with six bastions in earth and timber within a year, and it was rebuilt in stone from 1706-1740...Wikipedia

Thank you so much Jo Ann, Nancy, Tiia, John, Jeff, Tammy, and Terry. I'm sure glad you liked this post, as I had a hard time getting the whole thing in the frame. But it is all so worth it seeing your compliments and praises. A heart felt thanks. #11283834Mary K. Robison April 12, 2015
You took on the challenge of including that spire, Rey, and succeeded beyond all your expectations. This is such a gracefully stretched vertical composition. And how nice of the weather to cooperate that day, providing a beautiful background. As usual, the clarity and details are remarkable, and the colors are beautiful. Fave! #11283915Patrick Rouzes April 12, 2015
