Angel in Black

While photographing at the cathedral today, I made some shots of 2 angels carved into an alabaster tomb. The area was darker than normal; windows boarded over due to repair work outside, and the overhead lantern was off. I noticed one of the angels, seen from a particular angle, had a nice bit of backlighting going on, from a light source off-frame . The shot was pretty high ISO, and the result was a bit noisy. I explored a dark treatment, but ultimately took it to essentially just an outline of the angel's head (about the size of a large apple.)

Shoot - I forgot we can't attach photos to our own Photo Discussions anymore, under the new BP updates. So here's a link, if that works:http://www.betterphoto.com/gallery/dynoGallDetail.php?photoID=14817241 #11231528

Yes, it is LOVELY with the dramatic back lighting. Yes...that's one of the foibles of the new model. #11231596Joy Rector January 25, 2015

Lovely, but I wished you had dodged a bit to lighten the details on this side of the face. #11234933Chris Budny January 30, 2015
Thanks, Amanda. Go figure -- I wanted to burn the faint midtones even more than I did!! #11234959Sign up for an interactive online photography course to get critiques on your photos.
