An Internet search answered all the questions that I had about this symbol of Nazi hate I discovered on this Buddha. One source explained:
"The swastika's Indian name comes from the Sanskrit word svasti, meaning good fortune, luck and well being... It has been a part of many ancient cultures and religions, including Buddhism, for thousands of years.
"The Buddhist swastika is almost always clockwise, while the swastika adopted by the Nazis (many of whom had occult interests) is counterclockwise." This Buddha is one of the exceptions.

How interesting to read all about the Symbol. It confused me when we saw it. Mare, this is such a beautiful photo. One of the things I learned while we were there was that their faith is based on all good things and balance. Realism to our natures but trying to suppress the evil in our natures with meditation. Same as we feel with our our faith! :)) !! Balance is what your perfect image here has and it just adds to what they are all about. What we all strive for. Very beautiful. I hope the judges stop and appreciate this one! -Pommy on Palm #11173656Joy Rector October 31, 2014
