Vasari's Arcade

The "Vasari Corridor" is a long, elevated passageway that snakes its way through Florence to connect the Palazzo Vecchio to the Pitti Palace across the river. Built by order of Cosimo Medici, this passage allowed the Medici to move from home to work, in private, above the crowds of Florence residents. Here, the corridor runs atop the arcade of round arches; the small, round iron grills cover round windows above each arch, opening into the corridor.
