Ciao, Firenze!

Description

Santa Maria del Fiore (aka Il Duomo di Firenze) in Florence, as seen from the spectacular viewpoint afforded by the tower of the Palazzo Vecchio. The gold ball at the peak of the conical roof, above the lantern atop the dome, sits 375 feet above the street. A crowd of people are standing at the railing encircling the lantern.
I just returned home from vacation; my first trip to Italy, focused for 6 days in Florence--definitely not enough time to do the city justice, and I look forward to a return trip!

Thanks, Harriet! It is a marvel of a building, to be sure... reading the history of the dome, and how it was engineered centuries ago... it is remarkable! #11178129
