BOOKS!

This is a story from Christmas 2012, but it is repeating itself thousands of times over this Christmas and every Christmas.
---
Last year I photographed the last phase of a project in which the Southeast Pennsylvania chapter of the Red Cross partnered with a local business to help a family that had lost everything in a recent fire.
----
The Red Cross had helped the family to obtain a new apartment, which was totally empty the night "Santa" arrived with thousands of dollars worth of beautifully wrapped gifts all carefully purchased to meet the needs of each family member--coats, bedding, pots, pans, TV, furniture items, and bicycles, clothing, toys, and BOOKS for the children. It was such a joy to watch the volunteers and employees of the partner company unload hundreds of gifts and carry them into the apartment and place them in an empty living room that barely could hold everything!
