Games begin with the playing/singing of the National Anthem. It never ceases to amaze me that most of the kids are less than reverent. From where this team stands, the Flag is at about 1 o'clock. But where are their eyes pointing? Where are their hands?

This was a City championship game, and therefore the Philadelphia PIAA (Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association) Chairman presided over the game and awards ceremony.
----
As I glanced over to where the Chairman stood during the playing of the anthem, his back was to the flag, and though he had removed his cap, the hand holding the cap was at his side, and nowhere near his heart.
----
Is it the same in other cities and towns?

Sad but I think it is. I was at a playoff game last year and a young guy did not remove his hat. Needless to say an Elderly man had a few words to say to him. The younger fella didn't even has sense enough to keep his mouth shut. After he looked around half the people in the stands were glaring at him and he shut up. I think we all was ready to defend the Elderly man. LOL Excellent capture. #1553280

Sad, but true…the eroding of Americana. I think it's mostly generational; the younger they are, the more removed they are from traditional values/customs. Not all, but in general. #10903142

I agree with you, Michelle
More and more, men won't remove their hats or stop talking or playing on their phones.
One inspiring sight was watching the Navy ice hockey team during the anthem.
Normally, players will fidget or slide their skates as they stand on the ice.
The Navy players absolutely froze in position with nary a blink until the last note.
The crowd and other team took notice, and by the end of the song, everyone else was paying due respect, as well.
Then a rousing cheer filled the arena. #10903251

This seems to be a growing trend amongst the young, but I do feel it has to do with the event you are attending. I was at the 150th reenactment of the Battle of Gettysburg this year and the entire crowd stood, hats removed and all proudly sang the National Anthem together. I don't think I had ever heard a crowd sing as loud and proud as they did. Young and old alike. It was so moving the patriot heart strings were playing too! Great capture and very story telling image, Michelle. #10903732
