Oh my, this is fantastic! Wouldn't change a thing. #1551020Debbie E. Payne November 02, 2013
Me, neither! I love it just as it is. So elegant and colorful. You need to frame this one, Michael! #10888794Michael Kelly November 03, 2013
Thanks Jeff and Debbie. Thanks to Sherry to for assisting by holding up the black mat board I used as a background for this which is why I think it comes off as dramatic as it does. I will print this one latter today and see about a frame, Debbie. #10889393Stephen Shoff November 03, 2013
nice work, Mike #10889394Peter W. Marks November 03, 2013
Ha Mike, you have answered one of the questions I was going to ask. "A black mat board"- that's simple enough. Now for a more difficult one-what tree/plant/bush is this? #10889736Michael Kelly November 03, 2013
Thanks Stephen. Thanks Peter. This was an ornamental pear tree. Just a lower branch where sherry could hold the background behind the leaves.

Beautiful colors Mike-they show up really nicely against the background.I don't mean to be a party pooper, but IMHO. the most prominent leaf on the left is not in the field of focus, and it keeps drawing my eye from the leaves that are in focus, especially the pretty one on the right. #10889910

Elaine you are correct that there are several leaves in the group that are not as sharp as I would like including the one you mention. I did print it though and the impression in the print is not as strong as the monitor version. I wanted to go and reshoot this but Sherry thought I was being to much of a perfectionist and liked what I had so I went with it as shown. #10889915Elaine Hessler November 03, 2013
I'm glad that the print looks better. I can definitely see it hanging on a wall-what size? #10889995Beth Spencer November 03, 2013
I really like the contrast of the colors, they are very dramatic! I bet the print looks great! #10890019Susan Williams November 03, 2013
This is so pleasing to the eye. I love the gentle focus against the strong contrast of colors on the black background. Well-balanced comp, too. #10890024Peter W. Marks November 04, 2013
"Ornamental pear tree"? Why didn't I know that Mike as we have a Bradford pear, one of the cultivars of those trees in our own back yard! Our's never gets those beautiful red leaves but your image peeked my curiosity and after a bit of minor research it appears that the cause could be that here in the mid/southern part of the Midwest our climate is relatively mild and our leaves stay green well into late November. Then any sudden and hard frost will cause the leaves to drop before they get to turn red.Rita K. Connell November 04, 2013
the colors and detail is very nice. love the contrast of red next to the black. I did notice one leaf glad it prints well. Love seeing all the veins. great job #10890508Dale Hardin November 04, 2013
Been out of town so am late to the game, but am on board as an admirer of this image. The background was the kicker. Well done. #10890914Michael Kelly November 04, 2013
Thanks Elaine. Obviously it is still soft on the print but it does not grab attention as much. Right now it is printed 8X10 borderless but I will probably go to a standard mat on a 16X20 frame which will make the print 11X14.Thank you Beth. The red against the glossy black BG looks really good on the print.
Thank you Susan, I think that is why Sherry liked it so well too.
Peter I don’t know why you did not know, but for me I had to ask Sherry and we have one in our yard. The one In this picture is about a mile from our house and was gorgeous while ours is still mostly green with some frost burn. There does not seem to be a reason for the great disparity when thigs are that close.
Thank you Rita and Dale. Probably not my best effort, but it does have a very pleasant look overall. Dale that black BG printed on glossy paper really pops this one.

Beautiful shot! I love the color, details, and the simplicity of this! It gives me a sense of calm. #10892510lisa anderson November 11, 2013
I love this shot as well, but I did notice the slightly softer focus leaf, only because people in the club comment on that stuff with my shots so often :) I really like your composition here. I find it hard to keep these shots beautiful and simple, but you pulled it off imho #10896627Sign up for an interactive online photography course to get critiques on your photos.
