How do I avoid this, or is it a camera flaw?

Dear Carl, "bubbles" in digital images occur when you use the camera's flash in a place where's a lot of dust in the air. Yes, the bubbles are tiny dust particles captured by the digital camera's low-focal-length objective. Remedy? Use weaker alternative light sources inside or buy an expensive air filtering system ;-) #3085

Thanks. I found and read extensive interactions in the Q and A section of this site, but your shot, to the point discussion was quite appropriate.

In looking further at my photo, I think the corner of the pan in which the cake was baked is reflecting back on the lens.

Here is the same phenomenum capatured in a shot of Old Silverton, Colorado. It's not the full moon. I assumed it was something on the lens, like a moisture spot. Exactly what is it? #13230
