An exercise in lighting for SP
Uploaded: August 09, 2013
Well for my next SP I decided to do an exercise in lighting. For this capture I used 2 off camera canon speedlites controlled by on camera ST E2 radio transmitter. On the right speedlite I used a Rogue #25 grid with 1/2 cut CTO gel and on the left use a Rogue red gel and fired the Canon EOS 1D Mark IV with remote controller and remote extension cord to give me the distance to control the camera from where I sat. The ISO was set at 100, F/4 in AP mode, 90mm focal length and 1/4 sec. I appreciate any helpful comments as this was one of my first multi light off camera projects using various modifiers.

Well, you're WAY out of my area of being able to comment intelligently. It's an interesting look. Was it our intention to achieve an intriguing blur? #10803279Jeff Robinson August 10, 2013
Great job with this Doc!! #10803337Emile Abbott August 10, 2013
My skin is not that great Michelle so a little blur helped the presentation. I wondered who would notice. Thanks Jeff. #10803606Terry Cervi August 10, 2013
Emile, I know nothing about all you've said. You've done a wonderful job with your SP, that's all I know. LOL. #10803614John Connolly August 10, 2013
I waited to comment on this image Emile! I think you did a great job with it! I have been fooling around with lights for the past 50 years, and as far as I am concerned it is a life time of study and practice! This is possibly why I seldom do any portraits any more! Give yourself a pat on the back for this one! #10803770Todd C. Yates August 10, 2013
Emile, this is not a good photograph. That said, I admire your effort and willingness to seek feedback. I've had the same terrible failures and have learned though many trials and failures. I suggest a much higher power setting on your flash setup along with a faster shutter speed. A better composition would be helpful too. A well thought out photograph is always taken more seriously. #10803783Emile Abbott August 11, 2013
Thanks Terry and John. Also thanks Todd I need all the critical feedback I can get. It was my first effort and practice at multiple lighting and modifiers. Please feel free to continue to help in my learning process I have tough skin and am not offended. #10804333JO ANN CLEVELAND August 12, 2013
I love this one too Emile...My recommendation to Todd is be more courteous and any negative remarks would be better sent privately!!! I can not believe anyone would be sooo ugly!
Constructive criticism is great unless you are going to be so totally negative..Todd is an excellent photographer but he goes a bit to far on the public advice...
