Not just snow leopard..

It's not that great a picture but the important thing is today I learned how to sharpen eyes.May not be the best job ever but I am starting to understand a little more each time I delve into PSE...yeah

You have an excellent image to work with Kristin and I have an exercise for you.Open this in PSE, open a levels adjustment layer and look at the histogram. Now move the left slider to the right until it is at the bottom of the main "mountain" of data. then move the right slider to the left until it meets the main "Mountain" of data. What do you see? #1517272

Nice shot Kristin, I'm glad you are learning your way around PSE! Which method did you use to sharpen the eyes? To me it appears you may have applied a bit too much sharpening. I'd be interested to see the unedited version as well as Dale's levels adjustment suggestion. #10593654Kristin Duff March 02, 2013
Dale's experiment #10593852Kristin Duff March 02, 2013
@Anthony, I agree it is too much but was following instructions from a PSE 9 Book. I used an unsharp mask then a layer. #10593865Dale Hardin March 02, 2013
OK Kristin, now that you have reclaimed all the lost data in the image it's time to go to work getting the most out of it.Look closely at the shot and critique it as if it were my image. What would you change? What parts would you like lighter/darker/sharper/softer etc? Then it's just a matter of deciding how to accomplish those changes. #10593896

Ok Dale, I am starting to get the way I should be thinking...didn't take long ...only a year and a half. these are just quick changes to let you know I would change the background of the leopard. I was up very early this morning to do a Phoenix turn and I am doing the same thing Sunday but with the added bonus of a severe winter storm moving in. I will play with another photo tomorrow evening. I am really excited as I think I have grasped just enough to make me believe I can actually do this PSE thing with enough practise. Not bad for someone, who a year ago, could only send an email on a computer! #10593967Kristin Duff March 02, 2013
ps...that's not the original but the title of the one before for Anthony #10593971Kristin Duff March 02, 2013

Kristin, a year and a half and you've come a long way. Keep it up! #10594092Brandi K. Mills March 02, 2013
A beautiful creature! I can't wait to get PSE someday and u can give me pointers :) I like the changes u made in the beginning but not as much at the end. The background seems to take my eyes off the subject. #10594119Kristin Duff March 03, 2013
yes it does Brandi, I was just trying to point out the background needed changing, I just didn't know to what. I will play around with this some more this evening! #10594393Kristin Duff March 03, 2013
ok Here it is for the last time, I promise. Eyes sharpened moderately, background cloned( need to work on the art of that I think) and levels adjusted. #10595269Debbie E. Payne March 04, 2013
You've got it, Kristin. I like the softer more subtle tones that you have rendered in your last edit. Nice work. Yes the colors were taking over the main subject in the vivid edits. #10596400Peter W. Marks March 05, 2013
I like the final version Kristin. And Brandi, I have no idea what your budget allows for with toys but PS Elements 11, the latest version can be purchased very reasonably at $70 from Amazonwww.adobe.com/go/tryphotoshop_elements #10597552

I am late on this one, but your last edit is great! you really are learning a lot and will continue to! This is a beautiful animal!Rita K. Connell March 12, 2013
great job on the edit kristen, I agree with everyone your last one looks good. I think now that you have the eyes right I think you could select the tiger on a layer and do a level adjustment to make him stand out more without letting the background take over. great jobkeep up the good work! #10606430Sign up for an interactive online photography course to get critiques on your photos.
