“Azure Berg In A Dark Sea”

Uploaded: February 24, 2013 | Entered: December 22, 2015 16:11:59

Description

Icebergs. Ponderous chunks of ancient ice obliviously floating in slightly warm salt water. The subsurface ice melts irregularly and in time the center of gravity shifts until that moment when the berg must shift or roll to regain its equilibrium. What was below may at some point be on top. Thus are the bergs sculpted into their fantastic shapes. Later, the inexorable melting.

The centuries old ice becomes crystal clear and dense as all the air bubbles are squeezed out. The glass-like ice refracts the incoming sunlight and it emerges as a neon-quality ethereal blue.

This berg has seen its ups and downs. Prelude to a storm, the skies are darkening and the black sea churns. Angled sunlight strikes the berg and emerges transformed into ethereal blue.
