I found this old Detroit Jewel stove at an antique shop in Hubbard, Ohio, and then found some info about the company. Reportedly, Detroit was the center of the stove-making industry in 1880 (the first manufacturing plant was built in 1860). By 1922, Detroit was firing up some 400,000 wood-, coal- and coke-burning stoves each year. One of the companies was the Detroit Stove Works, later sold to the Welbilt Co. Who knew? More snow here today - have a great Tuesday, everyone!
