11,000...I don't think Southern California's had that many jolts following any of our major quakes. Sorry your city is so vulnerable, Ann. But it's great that a such a symbol of Art will be restored eventually. Excellent capture of the upper structure of the Theatre. #10523737

Beautiful story and the colorful containers are doing a great job! Our town has a container home that was built last year on the riverfront. Very cool. #10523948

Wonderful colours and composition Ann - where would Ch Ch be without these huge colourful shipping containers and orange road cones :-? I found that quake on Saturday slightly upsetting, not so much the strength, but just surprise I think (should'nt be of course). #10524784

A very sad story, Ann. That has to be unnerving to be in that situation. It's a wonderful capture! #10524911

Description

Our Grand Old Lady of Christchurch, The Theatre Royal was severely damaged in the 22 February, 2011 earthquake. This is one of the few buildings in our central city which is being saved. It is structurally sound but requires extensive repair, upwards of $30 million dollars. We are a city of containers and in this case containers are being used to support the Theatre Royal until it can be repaired. A 4.6 aftershock two days ago marked the 11,000th earthquake/afershock our city has experienced. Apparently they will continue for a few more years.
