The Theatre Royal
Description: Our Grand Old Lady of Christchurch, The Theatre Royal was severely damaged in the 22 February, 2011 earthquake. This is one of the few buildings in our central city which is being saved. It is structurally sound but requires extensive repair, upwards of $30 million dollars. We are a city of containers and in this case containers are being used to support the Theatre Royal until it can be repaired. A 4.6 aftershock two days ago marked the 11,000th earthquake/afershock our city has experienced. Apparently they will continue for a few more years.
