Thanks Jeff. A bit of research has told me that it is probably an orchard swallowtail. #10509558

I don't know what I'm talking about, but it appears as though this butterfly might be laying eggs? Is it even a female? A beautiful capture, regardless of what is going on! #10509706

A superb macro capture Paul! It is far too windy here to try and shoot the butterflies! #10510358

Thanks everyone. Michelle, I think she was trying to lay eggs. She was flying around and landing often but didn't see her actually lay any. My research tells me that this is the female because she has less black than the male. #10510622

Not sure what variety is but it was fluttering rather rapidly around my yard today

UPDATE: A bit of Googling makes me believe it is an orchard swallowtail
