Though from a distance they may appear similar to those who have not studied the differences, the slightly-less-common (in these parts) Black Vulture is--at least to me--way more imposing a figure than the Turkey Vulture. They are also more likely to kill its prey.

I hadn't run into black vultures much till we moved here to Florida. While I see the turkey vultures often also, the black seem to have quite a presence too. A warning at a state park said they are sometimes inclined to eat the rubber right off your windshield wipers! This is a neat shot of this imposing bird, Michelle. #10538171ALLEN O.
